Who is the Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe?

Our title sponsor for this tour is the Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe. They’re located in “the center of the universe,” Frankfort, KY, as local personality John Lawson puts it. The mixed-use cafe, performance venue, community gathering spot, art gallery, and recording space is owned and operated by Mary Nishimuta and Walt Baldwin. Their vision and business model is simple, “creating community, one gathering at a time.”

That vision is a big part of why we’re out riding our bicycles. We’re not out here to “go green,” we’re out here to re-humanize the pace of the music touring and be more involved in the communities that we’re performing in. In fact, the Coffeetree is one of our favorite places to perform.

I often liken the Coffeetree to a venue in the East Village of Manhattan called they Living Room. Over the years it has become a premiere spot for up and coming artists and well known artists to showcase their ideas and music in an intimate, acoutically wealthy space. But the Coffeetree’s Walt Baldwin has a bigger vision.
The Kentucky Coffeetree faithfully records each and every show. Mr. Baldwin has invested in an audiophile quality collection of microphones and multi-track recording system. So, as an artist coming through playing a show, your last song is the beginning of a whole other show.

By creating a profile on the www.kentuckycoffeetree.com you can access, for FREE, highlights from nearly every show. That means you can listen to live, professional audio recordings from artists such as The Matt Flinner Trio, Bearfoot Bluegrass, and The Boulder Acoustic Society. As added incentive to visit the site we’ve teamed up to offer two exclusive tracks from a live performance I did there back in June.
We’re really honored to be supported by such a community minded business and we hope you’ll take a sec to check out their vision and story.
